Territory upkeep
The daily charge on the faction bank, how it is calculated and how to reduce it.
Contents
Owning territory has a recurring cost: once every 24 hours, an upkeep is taken from the bank of every faction that owns at least one chunk. That money is destroyed: it goes to nobody.
The calculation
The upkeep has two parts, added together:
- a territory part: $100 per chunk, increased by 2% per chunk beyond the first. The larger the territory, the more each chunk costs to maintain;
- a wealth part: 1% of the bank balance.
| Chunks | Territory part per day |
|---|---|
| 1 | $100 |
| 10 | $1,180 |
| 25 | $3,700 |
| 50 | $9,900 |
| 100 | $29,800 |
Example: a faction with 50 chunks and $2,000,000 in the bank pays $9,900 + $20,000 = $29,900 that day.
The territory part drops by 10, 20 then 30% with the "Upkeep reduction" upgrade (see Upgrades). The 1% bank part is never reduced.
When the upkeep is paid
- Every online member gets a message with the amount paid and the number of chunks.
- The faction earns 200 level XP for each upkeep paid (see Faction level).
When the bank falls short
If the bank does not hold enough to pay, it is emptied and the upkeep counts as unpaid: members are warned, along with the number of unpaid upkeeps in a row. The counter resets at the first upkeep paid.
Always keep enough to pay at least one upkeep in advance, and give back useless chunks with
/f unclaim: a territory too large for your bank drains it day after day.
Good to know
- The upkeep is taken at most once per 24-hour period, even if the server restarts in between; after a long server downtime, only one upkeep is taken, not one per missed day.
- A faction without territory pays nothing.
