Proximity voice chat
Talk to the players near you in game, from your browser, the desktop app, the mobile app or the mod.
Contents
PVPFACTION has built-in proximity voice chat: you hear the players who are near you in the world, and they hear you. The further away a player is, the quieter their voice; if they are on your left, you hear them on the left. Perfect for coordinating a raid, negotiating with a neighbouring faction… or betraying someone live.
What you need
| Requirement | Why |
|---|---|
| A website account linked to your Minecraft account | Voice identifies you by your in-game player. See Link your account. |
| To be connected to the game server | Voice follows your in-game position: outside the game, you are in nobody's range. |
| A voice client open while you play | Browser, desktop app, mobile app or mod: your choice, see below. |
| A microphone, ideally a wired headset | Sound is in stereo; a headset also prevents echo. |
Tip — Voice is optional. You can play perfectly well without it, and only listen in when it suits you.
Choosing a voice client
Every client joins the same voice room: a player in a browser hears a player on the desktop app, and vice versa.
| Client | For whom | Strength |
|---|---|---|
| Browser — the website's Voice page | Everyone, nothing to install | The simplest: one tab to keep open |
| PVPFACTION Voice desktop app | Windows, macOS, Linux | Global push-to-talk: the key works even in full-screen play |
| PVPFaction Connect mobile app | Android | Your phone becomes a second screen, with a talk button |
| Voice mod | Fabric or NeoForge players | Voice right inside the game |
For most players, the desktop app is the most comfortable: in a browser, push-to-talk only works while the tab has focus, so not while you are playing. In the browser, Voice-activated mode (the mic opens when you speak) gets around this.
How it works
- Range: you hear players within roughly fifty blocks. Beyond that, nothing.
- Volume and direction: volume drops with distance, and a voice comes from the side where the player stands relative to where you are looking. By turning your head, you can locate someone by ear, just like in real life.
- Same world only: a player in the Nether or the End cannot hear you if you are in the overworld.
- Nobody in range, nothing sent: as long as nobody is near you, your voice goes nowhere. The client tells you so.
- One session only: if you open voice elsewhere (another tab, another device), the old session is disconnected and tells you why.
- Who is speaking: an indicator appears above the head of a player who is talking in game.
Your privacy
- Voice is never recorded: it goes live from player to player through the voice server, and nothing is kept.
- No position is ever sent to your voice client: the server works out the volume and direction of each voice itself and only sends that result. So voice cannot be used to find a base from afar.
- If you or another player have blocked the other, you cannot hear each other.
All the details are on Voice privacy and conduct.
What about ranks?
A subscription rank improves your microphone quality as others hear it, and colours your "speaking" indicator. It changes neither your range nor what you hear from others: no in-game advantage. See Subscription ranks.
Having trouble?
Nobody hears you, microphone denied, no stereo… It is all on Voice troubleshooting.
