Graveyards
You respawn at the nearest graveyard you have discovered, inside a sanctuary with no PvP. How to discover and use them.
Contents
The world is dotted with graveyards. They are your respawn points after a death, like the graveyards of some online role-playing games: you come back to life there, then walk off to find your grave.
Discovering a graveyard
You only respawn at graveyards you have already discovered. To discover a graveyard, just physically enter its sanctuary: a "Graveyard discovered" message appears with its name. Your list of discovered graveyards is saved.
As you get close (within about forty blocks), you can spot a graveyard by its column of purple particles and its soul flames.
Explore around your base and pass through the nearby graveyards: the day you die close to home, you will respawn a stone's throw away instead of on the other side of the map.
Where you respawn
When you die, the server looks for, in order:
- your bed or your respawn anchor;
- otherwise, the nearest discovered graveyard to where you died, in the same world;
- otherwise, your faction's home;
- otherwise, the world spawn point.
A player who hasn't discovered any graveyard in a world yet therefore respawns at home or at the spawn point.
The sanctuary
Each graveyard is surrounded by three zones:
| Zone | Radius around the graveyard | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Sanctuary | 16 blocks | no PvP: nobody can hit anybody |
| No-build zone | 40 blocks | blocks cannot be placed or broken |
| No-claim zone | 48 blocks | no faction can claim territory there |
So nobody can build a trap or set up their base against a graveyard.
Protection against spawn killing
- When you respawn at a graveyard, you are protected for 8 seconds. This protection ends immediately if you attack someone or leave the sanctuary.
- When you leave the sanctuary, you keep 5 seconds of protection, time enough to get away.
- A player tagged in combat cannot enter a sanctuary: you don't escape a fight by running to the graveyard.
Graveyard zaaps
Each graveyard has its own zaap, so you can quickly get back onto the teleport network after respawning. How zaaps work is explained in /wiki/zaaps.
