Raids and overclaiming

How to attack an enemy base, how to take its land, and how to protect yourself.

On PVPFACTION, territory protects against building and looting by hand, not against explosions. A raid therefore has two stages: blow the base open with TNT, then, if the target faction is weakened, take some of its land.

What you can do in enemy land

ActionPossible?
Break or place blocks by handNo, unless the target faction allows it for your relation.
Open its doors and chestsNo, same rule.
Blow up its walls (TNT, creepers…)Yes, except during its shield or a grace period.
Fight its membersYes, whether you are neutral or enemies (never between allies).
Take its chunksOnly by overclaiming, see below.

Overclaiming: taking land

A faction that holds more chunks than its power can no longer defend all of its territory. You can then claim its chunks, one at a time, under three conditions:

  1. the target chunk is on the edge of its territory (at least one of its sides touches another territory or the wilderness);
  2. your own faction has enough power for one more chunk;
  3. your bank can pay the claim price, as for any other chunk.

You can never overclaim an allied faction, nor a peaceful one. And as long as a faction has at least as much power as chunks, its territory is untouchable: make it lose power first (every death costs 4 points, see Power).

Once the chunk is yours, it is your territory: you build there, break there and open the chests.

Keep an eye on /f show <faction>: when the chunk count exceeds the power, the faction is vulnerable. /f map shows you its edges.

Preparing the assault

CommandEffect
/f tntChecks your faction's TNT bank.
/f tnt add <amount> / take <amount> / addallPuts TNT into the bank or takes it out.
/f tnt fill <radius> <amount>Fills the dispensers around you with TNT from the bank (32-block radius and 64 TNT at most).
/f checkpointTeleports to your faction's rally point (see Home, warps and checkpoint).

The TNT bank holds 250,000 TNT by default, more with the "TNT bank" upgrade.

Defending yourself

  • The shield: for a few hours, explosions are cancelled in your territory and no non-member can touch a block there. It is paid by the hour. See The shield.
  • Power: keep more power than chunks, and avoid dying repeatedly during an attack.
  • Walls: obsidian withstands TNT explosions; your faction's obsidian bank (/f obsidian) stores those blocks.
  • The grace period: when the staff opens one (at the start of a new map, for instance), no explosion happens anywhere on the server and TNT cannot be placed, so everyone can settle in.

What raids bring in

Chunks taken by overclaiming advance several faction missions in the "Raid" category, as well as personal achievements. Killing enemy players also gives your faction XP (see Faction level).
