Voice troubleshooting
Nobody hears you, you hear nobody, microphone denied, no stereo: the causes and the fixes.
Contents
Most voice issues come down to three things: nobody is in range, the microphone is not allowed, or the other player does not have a voice client open. Start there.
Nobody hears me
| Likely cause | What you see | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Nobody is in range | "No one in range: your voice isn't sent to anyone" | Move closer: range is roughly fifty blocks |
| The other player has no voice client open | They do not show up in "Around you" | Only players with voice open can hear each other |
| You are not in the same world | — | Overworld, Nether and End are separate |
| Push-to-talk mode in the browser | Your voice only goes out while the tab is in front | Switch to Voice-activated, or use the desktop app |
| Sensitivity too high (Voice-activated) | "Picked up, not sent" while you talk | Lower the sensitivity in Microphone setup |
| Microphone muted in the desktop app | The app shows your mic as muted | Press F9 (or your shortcut) |
| Blocking | — | If either of you has blocked the other, you cannot hear each other |
I hear nobody
- Check the volume of the page or app, and your system's audio output (is the right headset selected?).
- Players must be in range, in the same world, and have a voice client open.
- A sanctioned player (muted or banned) is removed from voice: they can neither talk nor listen while the sanction lasts.
The microphone is denied or missing
- Browser: click the padlock icon to the left of the address, allow the microphone for the site, then reload the page.
- System: on Windows, also check that apps are allowed to use the microphone (microphone privacy settings). On macOS, allow your browser or the app under Privacy & Security › Microphone.
- No microphone found: plug it in before opening the page, then reload.
I was disconnected from voice
| Message | Explanation |
|---|---|
| "Voice was opened in another window or device…" | You opened voice in another tab or device: one session at a time |
| "…you're no longer connected to the game server" | You left the game more than a few minutes ago: voice switches itself off |
| Refused when connecting | Your account has no linked Minecraft account, or a sanction prevents it (mute or ban) |
The sound has no stereo
It is almost always Bluetooth: as soon as a microphone is active, your system switches wireless earphones to "call" mode, which is mono. You still hear the volume change, but no longer which side a voice comes from. This is not a server fault and no setting works around it: use a wired headset, or a microphone separate from your earphones.
Others hear an echo of themselves
Your microphone picks up the sound of your speakers. Wear a headset, lower the volume, or switch to push-to-talk (desktop app or mod).
The connection fails
"Connection failed" even though the microphone is allowed? Some networks (company or school networks, VPNs, very strict firewalls) block real-time audio streams. Try from another network, or turn off your VPN while you play.
Mod-specific
- "appairage expiré" (pairing expired): press N again and enter the new code faster.
- The mod asks to pair again: its access was revoked (under Account settings › Devices, for example). Pair it again.
Still stuck? Contact the team (see The server team) and mention your voice client (browser, app, mod), your system and the message shown.
